Your NHL Playoff Source!

John Marks, who goes by @NoJokeNHL on twitter, and myself, are going to be doing an NHL Playoffs segment every day during the week on the Palooza Radio Network.

We have done a segment or two in the past and we just have alot in common when it comes to how we approach the games, how we come across over the air and how we get along.

I will give more details as the NHL playoffs approach, which won't be long obviously. The Regular season ends Sunday the 13th, so keep an eye on both of our Twitter feeds (I am @Ejtherainmaker) for details if you are interested. And you would be rather foolish not knowing what we both have to say when it comes to making plays.

I know John and I will take this very seriously and with the years of knowledge and experience we both have? You are either interested or Dead! LoL

Effect of Instant Replay on MLB

Will the new instant replay rules beginning in 2014 in Major League Baseball cut down on Ejections and help the game?

It seems that in the beginning of the Major League Baseball season that replay is going to have an effects on arguments and/or ejections of managers, but will it last long is the question.

We don't know if this will have long term effects on the game, but in the early season it appears that replay will be worth the time it takes to get the calls right and I am sure there are many people who will argue why it took so long to get here.

Are the Earl Weaver, Lou Piniella, Billy Martin days of flipping out and having knock down, drag out arguments that see Managers losing their marbles throwing bases and kicking dirt all over the place finally over?

Time will tell but it is still in its early stages and there will of course be a way that a call can change the outcome of a game from an umpire who didn't see what was obvious to the fans or players.

Keep in mind, Managers get one challenge of an umpires call per game, and if they are correct and the call is overturned, they will get the challenge back and have a second opportunity later in the game to use another challenge. But if it is used early and they lose the challenge of the call, they will no longer have an opportunity to ask for another look at the play.

The replay rules have different interactions from the 7th inning on though. The Crew chief of the umpiring staff on the field for any given game has the right to stop a game and impose a self challenge on a call of a Home Run or play at the plate.

There is also now a person called the Field Timer Coordinator who controls the timing and will send messages to the announcers with colored cards.

This is directly quoted from MLB:

"The Field Timing Coordinator will hold up a RED card to signal when an inning break or pitching change break commences.

(ii) The Field Timing Coordinator will hold up a BLUE card to signal when the pitcher should throw his last warm–up pitch (with forty–five (45) seconds remaining in the break).

(iii) The Field Timing Coordinator will hold up a YELLOW card when the batter should leave the on–deck circle to approach the batter's box (with twenty–five (25) seconds remaining in the break).

(iv) The Field Timing Coordinator will hold up a GREEN card to indicate that the break has concluded. The Umpire shall not resume play until the Field Timing Coordinator holds up the GREEN Card."

A Manager can not decide to change his mind after asking for a replay. Once he asks for it, it is a final decision he will have to lie with no matter the outcome.

The evidence to change a call has to be an overwhelming decision to the play called on the field.
Reviewable Calls

Potential Home Run Calls

Non-Home Run Boundary Calls

Specified Fair/Foul ball Calls

Force/Tag Play Calls

Base Running Play Calls

Hit By Pitch Calls

Collisions at Home Plate Calls

The Official scorer has NO input on how calls are decided or reviewed

For more of the rules and regulations that go into factoring the how and why specifics of reviewable plays and logistics that pertain, you can find them at http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/official_info/official_rules/replay_review.jsp

Overall I will say that we will not be seeing as many ejections and blow out arguments that have become associated with the game as we have seen in the past and I do think this will cut down tremendously on ejections of both players and managers.

There will still be some fine tuning and adjustments to how these rules will be enforced over the years, but for now I think this is a great thing for the game and replay will calm down a lot of managers' attitude towards what are considered missed calls or blown calls.

Other then the fact that it might extend the time of the games a few more minutes, which baseball has already been scrutinized for length of the games, overall I think the fans will appreciate and understand that getting things right has always been of the utmost importance, so go get a beer and a hot dog while they review the plays and be happy they are at least taking advantage of the way cameras and technology has effected our society and sports.

Ej in World Cup Magazine

http://rainmaker.sportspalooza.com/2014/04/04/World Cup Magazine/

There it is!

I am featured on page 5 as one of the contributors to the book and 10 profiles you will read in the book say __Ej Garr on top of that!

Did the 2nd most profiles of all contributors and I got 3 copies today and let me tell you what it is like seeing my name up and down all over the magazine!!

If you see it on the stands or in the bookstore? Open it up and lean over to someone and say “I know that crazy dude! That’s the Rainmaker!”

I profiled teams like Italy (Duh, i have a weekly Italian Football Radio show, they had to give me Italy!)

Netherlands (Which they screwed me a bit because they have them only advancing to the group of 16; I had them going further, they edited that on me)

Did Russia, Belgium, Honduras, France, Costa Rica, Greece, Mexico & Croatia!

Hope you have the chance to purchase it or check it out. FOOTBALL!!

2.18 NcaaB

I have 3 plays going today, 2 sides and a total.

Went 1 - 1 in Ncaa Yesterday but hit the Italian Football play so 2 - 1 is where I sit since starting this over here.

The plays will be within the Iowa Indiana game and the Georgia Tennessee game, and I also have leans which I am still ironing out for the Nova Providence game and the N Iowa Drake game, but ofcourse no one will ask so I will just worry about those on my own.

Good Luck today

2.18 Champions League

The Battle for Europe picks up today with 2 matches in the Playoff Stage.

I am making plays on both matches and on both totals as well, so it will be an interesting evening.

With no one jumping out and screaming they want to know what plays I am making, I guess I will not get in to an in depth write up and I wish everyone good luck today!

2.17 NcaaB N Carolina @ Florida St

I Will have a play available for this game in Tallahassee tonight.

The 17 - 7 Heels head to 15 - 10 Florida State, and to say one team is rolling with momentum and another team hasn't won back to back games in what seems like forever would be hard not to notice.

The saying goes..... If you are not good enough to be favoured at home in College Basketball when 70% of home teams win?

There is your hint! Good luck!!

2.17 Italian Serie A Verona V Torino

Hellas Verona will host Torino Monday evening in Northern Italy, and I will be posting a play for this match ofcourse.

I did not cover this in the Radio show I had done this weekend, which is now unavailable as I deleted the link to the show on Friday.

Verona is obviously having trouble slowing anyone down lately and is headed in the wrong direction as is all 3 teams who came up from Serie B to start the year. Verona is obviously not doing as bad as Sassuolo and Livorno, but they have now fallen out of the European spots and will look to get back to form.

Torino looked terrible last weekend taking a 2 - 1 loss to Bologna, and now both clubs really need 3 points here to get back in the mix for the European discussion.

The play will be given to to my subscribers and tracked at pickmonitor.com as well with the play on the other thread listed here in NcaaB

NcaaB 2.17 Weber St @ Idaho St

Weber State, 14 - 7 and 11 - 2 in Conference play, travel to Idaho State to take on the struggling Bengals, 9 - 13 and 6 - 7 in Conference play.

Weber State has taken 9 of the last 10 meetings since Jan 31. 2009, including the most recent meeting Jan 20, 2014, a 6 point game @ Weber St 65 - 59.

The Wildcats have won 9 of their last 10 and 12 of the last 14 games which has put them in the lead position in the Big Sky Standings, basically in a 2 way fight with Northern Colorado as both teams are clearly the cream of the crop in the Conference.

Weber State is preliminarily listed as a 4.5 favorite and the total is not out as of this point, but I will be making a play on the side here regardless of the total given.

Davion Berry is the leader in points, assists and steals, leading 3 guys in double digits scoring and a deep bench that goes 8-9 spots in to the pine which is 25th in the Nation as far a FG % goes and 35th in the Nation from beyond the arc.

Idaho State is led by a trio of guards in Hansen, Sanchez and Hatchett, but turnovers have been a major concern for this young and undersized team who lacks rebounding and an interior presence.

Play will be available to those interested by contacting me @ Ejtherainmaker@gmail.com and the results of the play will be tracked under an ID at pickmonitor.com

Game of the Day

I will be previewing one game a day in any relevant sport going on at the current time in season.

I will also be making a play on that game on my handicapping profile page which can be accessed from me directly by emailing me @ Ejtherainmaker@gmail.com. if you would like to see the correlating plays in regards to the preview on that day.

There may be more than 1 preview/play on any given day as well, since there might be numerous leagues and sports going at one time.

I will be starting this Monday Feb 17th, 2014 and depending on the interest, I will keep it going.
